Come on Down to Intestinal Farms.....

Farm Encounter - This is a sample encounter set on Butchersworld (SGG pp 144 - 150), presented in relatively broad strokes for combat, exploration, negotiation, and (possibly) manifestation.   Halloween is a perfect time to visit Butchersworld.

The base structure was what remained of (liquid-gaseous) hydrogen-helium refilling station; at some point some desperate survivor, native or crashlander, made some valiant long term effort to run this area into a viable place to survive, or “live.”

It failed. But it’s legacy persists. The structure has been invaded and repurposed countless times now. At present it would appear to be overgrown but otherwise (higher) lifeless. Ancient Martian plants, roots, and vines, creep, grow, and enfold the remains now.

In fact it has recently been invaded and “conquered” by a young, sociopathic psion who has only in the last months learned the secrets of Carnokinetic manipulation. After parting ways with the accomplished master, the creator of the discipline, they came to this place, an epicenter of food networks rich with life, to concentrate, to practice, and to rest.

On approach to the camp, voyagers will note what seems to be an immense (3-4m wide) circular winding scarlet tent that seems to corkscrew in on itself from the outside. The structure is about 300m across from one side to the other at it’s widest point.  The “Tent” is a length of intestine animated by reprogrammed disassembly nanites, animated and controlled by The Farmer; a psychokinetic who has specialized in the manipulation...of meat. Carnokinesis

The Farmer (1)  Init +2; Atk   PK Blade +3 melee (1d8 + 3), mini bone saw +1 melee (3d4), PK Blast+5 ranged (3d6+4); AC 11; HD 4d6; hp 22; MV 30’; Act 1d20; SP Psychic, Carnokinesis; SV Fort+2, Ref +3, Will +4; AL C.   Carnokinesis – Manifesting die is 1d20 +4, they have up to 10 ability points that they may brainburn in the course of any given encounter. See Carnokinesis

The Farmer is most likely to regard any intruders or interlopers as, quite simply, another source of building materials. i.e. Meat.  If there is necromancy, the visible un-dead, or some kind of necromancer at play, they will be the first targeted by the Farmer. Primarily to make use of but also to eliminate any rivals to their “storehouse of materials.” Parties made up primarily or completely of artificial or inorganic life will find the Farmer to be furtive and uninclined toward interaction; indeed such a group might well be able to search the entire place without harassment or encounter (with the Farmer) if they are a large, well armed, or visibly robotic enough group.

Surrounding the “farm” in a half ring (about 200m across) are several clusters of carnivatrees, Martian Imperial "attack hedges," cultivated by the Farmer for some fell and experimental purpose.

Carnivatree (1-4)  Init +1; Atk    Writhing proboscis branches+4 melee (1d3 + 1d4 blood drain), Tree Maw +6 melee (2d4 plus digestive sap 1d4/round); AC 11; HD 2d8; hp 11, or 14, 12, 9, 5; MV 0’; Act 1d20; SP blood drain & digestive sap attacks persist until tree is slain; SV Fort+5, Ref +0, Will +1; AL C.

Ghost Pack Hunters – the agonized spirits of this place are common enough across the muddy bogland wastes of this world. Any significant amount of violence or suffering even here will invariably attract a small or vast number of such things.

Rage Ghost Horde (1-100)  Init +2; Atk   Bone Claw +3 melee (1d6 tearing, 1d4 cold) Rotting Bite +7 melee (1d6 + 1d10 STA on failed Fort Save DC 12); AC 19 (16 v. magic & energy weapons); HD 5d4; hp 15 or 20, 19, 17, 16, 15, 13, 12, 11, 9, 8 (x10); MV 50’; Act 1d20; SP ; SV Fort+4, Ref +4, Will +1; AL C.

Cutting Room Floor - Psychic Insights of the Noosphere

Cutting Room Floor

Psychic Insights of the Noosphere

 - Splinters – Sailing Across the Seas of Probability

Both Book II (https://dreaming-gynoid.itch.io/galaxy-black-ii-magic-metaphysics-and-psychic-power) and Splinters (https://dreaming-gynoid.itch.io/splinters-sailing-the-seas-of-infinity) may be useful in understanding and utilizing this material;

However, Book VI https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/372544/Galaxy-Black-VI-Judges-Guide-to-the-Collapsing-Universe will be essential to proper use of either spell, esp. the second.

“Slow your mind.  Here we cultivate deliberate thought and eliminate reactive thought.  Stop thinking.  Stop reacting to things.   Let go of meme-thoughts.

With stillness we begin.”

During Psion training,  as the nascent psychic’s training evolves their mind and inner eye, they repeatedly test their psychological fortitude; Would-be psychics confront their repressed nature, their shadow, and learn to transcend their own dualities.

At the end, a period known as consolidation begins, whereby the adept fuses and overlays their conceived inner world with the physical world outside.   Until they complete this process they cannot leave the temple or training space as Manifesters.

As psions develop their inner eye (gain levels and grow in power) their orgonne or inner self, their Subtle body, becomes very powerful, slowly the planar energies they commonly channel will become like unto a series of tiny capillaries running to them at all times.

Most psychic disciplines  (and especially those of third level or higher) are powered by transplanar energies; most commonly what is called variously orgonne/kundalin/the yang realm/positive material energy, though there are exceptions.   Possibly  at some point in the distant past this was not always the case save perhaps as a (faintly) emergent quality however that’s now changed for other reasons.

However, the medium through which almost all psychic activity seems to flow primarily will always bee the Noosphere, the Plane of Thought.

And now the 30 second glory

One nation

One sky

One Empire

Both Galsxy Black II Magic, Metaphysics and Psychic Powers and Galaxy Black III Star travel and the Secrets of the Sub-ether ready for release;  just waiting on approvals from GG.    Thank you all for your immense patience with this project!

The next installment , Galaxy Black IV  Gear (Space Trader Nick’s Coreworld Supply Catalog 957th Sidereal)  Will be a little bit longer in coming as I need to go back through all the numbers and make sure they sing (it’s a very pixelbitchy book).  More than any other save perhaps III, Galaxy Black IV will be a fairly self-contained book for those wanting to pick and choose.  The imperial book of common prayer (which is functionally our Deities and Demigods book) and the Judges Guide to the Collapsing Universe will round out the year.

Somewhere in here Sub-ether 03 will drop.

Many years of deep studio work are finally paying off and we couldn’t be happier.

We are a tiny little company,  if you like what we do or just want us to stay around, consider supporting us on Patreon.   Get early access, previews, and WIP from all of our coming projects by becoming a patron today!

SpAcE mAdnEss

At long last I am going over the psychic powers and metaphysics chapter; the last great chunk of text that needs editing. The era where the text is set is in bloody sight finally.  I would *really* like to get some higher-level playtesting for the psi powers in before that so I should probably cook up a few 2-5th level characters and go from there.
I should probably get further along on designing a character sheet for this thing.
I wrote all the psi powers in one sitting in a white heat, a bit like I did the Sub-ether chapter.  Unlike the sub-ether chapter this is (so far) requiring a lot less revision (the Sub-ether chapter was the first written in completeness and so needed substantial revision to be up to code with the rest of the book.  All in all, giant improvements of course)
AT higher levels psi powers seem all about tapping other worlds and breaking down the barriers between them. Very Luther Arkwright, very Jerry Cornelius.  Also, a bit Hunter the Reckoning if you recall the creeping derangements at Virtue 7 to unlock level 4 powers.
Also, wouldn’t it be mighty inconvenient if psychic powers caused mutation?   They are as much Cronenburg or Barker as they Moorcock.

Right now, there is an (optional) rule mandating a check against space madness at fifth level and beyond.

“@ attaining fifth level, the Imperial Psion must succeed at a DC 14 Will save to avoid succumbing to the rigorous demands their powers, space, and time, place upon them.”   On a failed roll consult the Space Madness table
This must be repeated at sixth level (DC 16), seventh level (DC 20), eighth level (DC 24), ninth level (DC 26) and finally at tenth level (where the will save to avoid creeping space madness is now DC 30.)

“Space Madness” – inspired madness for higher level psions
1.         Garden variety paranoia;
2.         Feels trapped; The psion=spacer will go to any length to avoid feelings of déjà vu as though they are trapped in a loop of time from which they cannot escape……….
3.         Body warp – perception of self has been altered; likely through teleport or clairvoyance mishap.  Unusually preoccupation with and awareness of internal bodily processes, often to distracting degrees.  Likely will begin wasting away or accumulating large amounts of weight within 8-12 mos. “

If the table progresses very far it will get messy. Right now, it goes up to eight and I already feel it’s a bit excessive.  To be honest, there are a few things herein that fit that description.
Of course, it’s self-indulgent. Who else is going to indulge me?  Ha.
Ultimately if I’ve done my job correctly you will be wishing for the joy of playing a wizard or an elf or even a cleric again after a few weeks of this psion shit.  They have it rough and that’s by design. If you’re going to do an end run around the universe these things they will have damn consequences.

You see me now the veteran of a thousand psychic wars……
